1. Extension Glue - we all love extensions, however some times it can get a little sticky! Use olive oil to remove excess bonding glue. Use a few drops of olive oil over tracks let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes, when you rinse glue will be gone. Use a good clarifying shampoo to remove oil.

2. Fight Hair Frizz -
- Expired sunscreen can be reincarnated as a grooming cream. Use a pea size on fingertips and smooth around hairline to tame fly aways .

- If you wet a bar of soap, you can use it to sculpt and style, it will give a matte finish.

- Lip balm can also be used as a hair wax to add definition to your stle and get rid of hair line frizz.

Gelatine contains high level of protein which can help strenghten your hair shaft. Pour a packet of clear gelatine into hot water, massage and leave on your hair for 30 minutes then rinse. Ladies, i've got some great household beauty tips for you coming up this week. You would be amazed with the items around your home that can be used for various hair /makeup aids.

1. DANDRUFF - Dandruff is the worst, an itchy scalp is not attractive at all. Sooth that dandruff itch by crushing a few ibuprofen pills and mix into your shampoo. The texture of the crushed pills work as an exfoliant fo your scalp. Wow ibuprofen is good for more than just cramps and a migrane!!!

2. ENHANCE HIGHLIGHTS - A combo of lemon and orange juice bring the most natural looking hightlight results. Put the combo in a spritz bottle and spray evenly in your hair before going into the sun, it creates a warmer than gold blonde!!!!

3. NATURAL HAIRSPRAY - Take one teaspoon of honey or agave ectar winto a 1/2 cup of warm water pur into a spray bottle and mist over the hair. The liquid sugar acts like a light hair gel, the sugar gives strands lots of texture. I will advise this is not for african american hair textures.

Ladies, here are a few great tips to stop your foundation from running, sliding eyeliner, and super sticky lipstick. Heat & humidity are huge challenges for makeup wearers during the summer months.

Natural Hair S.O.S.: Five Tips To Bring You Safely Through Your Transition

Instead of doing the Big Chop, many women choose to gradually transition to natural hair and let the relaxer grow out at its own pace.

While less abrupt than chopping, transitioning can be a challenging process. Though exhilarating at times, it can also be frightening and frustrating as you’re navigating through a new, uncertain world of styling and maintenance.

As I go through the phase myself, here are some tips I’ve learned along the way that will help you make the most of your journey:

1. Moisture, moisture, moisture!

I can’t stress the importance of moisturizing your tresses as you transition to natural hair.

-Co-washing (washing without shampoo) is one of the best tips I’ve learned to retain moisture.

-When you do shampoo, look for sulfate-free products as sulfate can tangle and dry out your hair.

-Use oil to seal in the moisture.

-Deep condition regularly to help strengthen and add moisture to your hair.

2. Serve and protect

Since your hair is two different textures during the transition, it’s more fragile and susceptible to breakage than ever especially at the demarcation line where natural hair ends and relaxed hair begins.

-Wearing protective hairstyles (see no.5) will help curve damage.

-Use low heat, if any, as flat-ironing, blow-drying and pressing will cause hair to break.

-Be sure to keep your ends trimmed as your hair grows out.

-Detangle with care. Apply conditioner and detangle from the ends to the roots in sections. Be sure to detangle regularly to avoid knotting and matting.

3. Rediscover your hair

When going natural, you are getting to know your hair all over again. I’m thrilled to see every new curl but also frustrated when old products and techniques don’t work for me anymore. Be patient with your hair and yourself along the way.

And remember since your texture and curl pattern is unique, not every product and style that your girlfriend loves will have the same result on your hair. Learn what works best for you.

4. Be Healthy From The Inside Out

Most women forget that haircare starts from within. If your lifestyle is unhealthy, your hair is one of the first areas to reveal it. Drink tons of water, take multivitamins, maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly to reinforce strong and healthy hair.

5. Styles

When transitioning, protective styles are your best friend. They prevent breakage and reduce stress on your hair. Styles that hide your ends like buns, weaves (with proper care underneath), wigs, micro braids and cornrows are protective and also versatile.

There are also fun style options that blend the two textures such as roller sets, braid-outs, bantu knots and twist-outs. One style to avoid is flat ironing or straightening your hair as the heat and stress can cause excessive breakage.

Transitioning to natural hair can be as taxing on your tresses as it is on your emotions. As the process becomes more and more difficult, it’s tempting to run to the nearest salon for a relaxer.

Pictures of women with beautiful natural hairstyles have kept me inspired during my journey. Create a vision board or gallery as inspiration. Make sure you keep your vision in mind and remain determined, not discouraged. Be patient with yourself. It’s not an easy process and you may make mistakes along the way but trust in the end, it will be more than worth it.

FASHION WEEK FALL 2011 REVIEW - PART 1

As we all know its currently Fashion Week in New York City!! I attended my first fashion week last year in September and it was absolutely fantabulous!!!!

For the rest of the week all the posts will be the hair/makeup looks for some of my favorite designers. Ladies, remember these hair and makeup look are what we will be wearing for spring/summer 2011.

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO

Rocking his runway, this Project Runway winner had a neutral face paired with beach waves

TO GET THE LOOK: All products by MAC. Only neutralize needed skin areas with concealer, and then highlight cheeks and eyelids with shine gloss. Lighten your brows and brush them upward to make them look fuller.

TO GET THE LOOK: Spray setting lotion, or hairspray onto damp hair. Braid in medium size braids, tie a rubber band at the end. With your flatiron seal and go over the braid few times. When you undo you have a great beach wave

REBECCA TAYLOR

This lines was accented with a neutral, luminous face, and dark stained lips with a smokey eye. The Hair, a park in the center and medium size waves at the bottom.

DEREK LAM

This year they went for a luminous glowing complexion and a exaggerated cat-eye shape keeping the lines very precise.

LUCA LUCA

This line had a great young fresh feeling on the runway. The hair was a high non -traditional circular bun secured with bobby pins at the top of the head. The Makeup was neutral eyes, and a pop of color on the lips.

GRAMMY 2011 OVERVIEW

Ok here are my hit and miss reviews for the 2011 Grammy's. First, I have a few tips:

1. Ladies, at a formal event a lace front wig, or any wig by that matter is not acceptable. It would be best to get a sew in weave , a bonded weave or wear clip in pieces to achieve your desired look.

2. When picking out your outfit, make sure to choose a dress that fits you well, and the material is complimentary to your body.

3. Also, undergarments are VERY VERY VERY important. However, if the dress is not fitting your well undergarments wont help. You should always invest in a good girdle, bra, strapless bra. If you have other problematic areas get garments that will support them also.

So, now here are some of my misses and hits for the award show!!!

Monica- I liked her gown it was very complimentary her body. Here hair was very and cute and make flawless

Kim K. - this girls brings it, every time!!! Her dress was beautiful, the color, material all RIGHT! Here hair and makeup was flawless as normal. Many hate on Kim but she made a bad situation into a very good one.

Amber Riley - ALL WRONG. First this dress is not flattering for a women who has a little weight, its a little too snug. I think she should have worn a dress that had a different shape and made from a different material. Her makeup was pretty good, The hair, when you have a fuller face, straighter hair looks better, especially for formal events.

JLO- I love her, she is and will always be my #1 beautinista and fashionista!!!! These are what good extensions should look like!!! Her makeup flawless. Her outfit is accenting her best features her legs!!! Kudos to her hair and makeup artist.

Keri Hilson- Keri usually upsets me with her outfit, however I think this outfit is a winner. Its a cute cocktail dress and I like the color on her. Her hair I'm loving it, I love the over exaggerated part. Her makeup always dewy and flawless, the nude lips is fab!!!

Ciara- This dress is horrible, her makeup looks really nice. The hair, a forbidden lace front. Cece you should have gotten a good sew in weave. I don't like her look at all.

JHud - You have lost 80 lbs and this is what you wear. I think she could have made a better selection in her outfit. Her makeup on the other hand was flawless!! She looks very dewy and fresh. Her hair, just like Ciara a forbidden lace front. Its never ok.

Nicki Minaj - Her outfit is way too much. She looks bad!! Her makeup looks great, she is always very consistent in the area.

Hillary (from Lady Anatebellum) - This is what I'm talking about, a woman with some meat wearing a flattering outfit. I like this look on her.

Rhianna - Now she is normally my favorite but this year I was very disappointed. Her makeup was flawless as usual. Her hair was cool, but nothing special about it. Now that dress I didn't really like it, but she did wear great undergarments, I'm thinking a nude catsuit.

Ladies, I have found my new foundation!!!! I know you have seen the commerical for Maybelline FIT with supermodel Jessica White. This is Maybelline's new line of foundation, they state they have a color for every foundation. I will agree that they have a lot of colors, however if you are a chocolate brown to dark skin woman of color, you will not find your color. Also, this finish is more light to medium, do not use this if you are looking for full coverage. This is a great buy for $7.99

They have all new colors. I bought the Coral and Sugar Plum Fairy last week. The colors look great, they are great if you are looking for a cheap, matte lipstick. I suggest putting a lip balm, vaseline or carmax first then apply the lipstick.

GETTING THE PERFECT SMOKEY EYE!!!!!!!

Everyone always asks how do you achieve the perfect smokey eye?? There are a few ways to achieve a sultry, sexy smoke eye. For a great smokey eye you don't always have to use the traditional black eyeshadow, but can be done with gray, purple, blue and brown shadows.

Tools: eye primer, a light and dark shade of the color smokey eye you want, small-med eyeshadow brush, eye liner same color as shadow used, mascara

Step 1: Apply primer to entire eye lid. Creme eye shadow, foundation can be used as primer.

Step 2: Line upper and bottom lid with eye liner

Step 3: Apply lighter shade shadow from inner part of your lid to entire eye lid, not going over the crease in your eye. You only want shadow on the skin that covers your eye ball.

Step 4: Apply darker shade from outer lid to halfway point on your lid, also apply to your crease

Step 5: Use a blender brush to blend dark color into light shadow. You can also add a little foundation or highlighter to your eye brow to have better blending effect.

Step 6: Add mascara and you have a simple, everyday, sexy smokey eye

* For a high fashion or evening look go a little heavy with liner and shadow and add lashes.

Some of our favorite celebs brought in 2011 with a bang. Here are a few of the hot looks that they were wearing:

Everyone who knows me, knows that I love Kim Kardashian, she hardly ever has a bad beauty day! I will admit I'm not a fan of her plastic surgery, I think it was very premature. For NYE 2011 Kim hair was very fitting for her outfit. She wore hair dark tresses slightly curled and draped to one side. Her makeup was gorgeous as usual a nice clean, bronzed look. Contour her cheekbones with bronzer and blush and a little shimmer for a dewy, fresh look. To bring out Kim's eyes they rimmed her entire eye in heavy black and smudged to soften it up, add a natural pink lip and her look is FAB!!!

Now my other hot girl, is Rihanna. She is a beauty plus at all times, yes even with the red hair. It may be a bit extreme, but it has the hair industry on fire. Rhi Rhi brought in the New Year with curls, medium barrel curls with her part in the middle. Sporting a clean face, with a brown smokey eye to accent her green eyes. To top it off a natural pink lip. Rihanna is great at knowing when you highlight one area you play down everything else. Ladies if you have a bright hair color, tone down the makeup and vice versa.

Our last beauty look, Jennifer Hudson. With that striking new body she had on a hot outfit to show it to the world. Her hair/makeup needed a little work. I loved her face, but that wig was a no no. Jennifer please invest in a good weave, please don't bring those wigs into 2011. Her face was very clean accenting her cheekbones with a bronze/peach blush. Her gold eyeshadow, with a dark crease looked great!!. I hope to see a better glam look for J. Hud to go along with that great new body!!

After reading this info in Essence Magazine, I decided that it is great information that will be helpful to my readers. Here are some questions, that may help you in reference to your foundation.

1. Does foundation cause you to break out?
Not usually. Most breakouts are caused by internal factors. If you get a rash caused by foundation, its usually because it was not properly removed. On some occasions, breakouts happen if you have a reaction to an irritating ingredient. You should see a determetologist.

2. I want to look at natural as possible. How can I avoid an overly made-up face?
Blend and build. Begin with a formula that goes you sheer to medium coverage. Start with a light applications and if you need additional coverage, then "build" by applying another layer. Remember it is equally important to build as well as you go.

3. Does the formula matter if the shad is right?
To get your best look, you also have to understand what is going on with your skin. You want to determine the perfect forumla for our skin type. For example, if your skin is dry, you will need a foundation that will add moisture; for oily types , oil free and matte formulas will do the trick.

TIPS FOR WINTER SKIN

In order to have the best skin in these harsh winter months, there are some essential steps and products needed.

1. Wash and moisturize your face 2x a day, once in the morning and then before going to bed. In the evening use a thin layer of vaseline as your moisturizer, you will see and feel the difference in the texture of your face.

2. Never go to bed with makeup on

3. Analyze your skin make sure the products that you are using are the right type for your face. My aunt who has very dry skin began using Lancome for dry skin, and now her skin is glowing. Its an investment but well worth it.

SMOKEY BRONZE EYE

A smokey bronze eye is a great look for the fall season. The key is to choose the right balance of color.

1. Start with an eye primer, or you can use a small amount of your foundation as primer. This helps your shadow remain in place, and helps avoid creasing.

2. Choose a bronze color that best compliments your eyes. Copper is best for blue eyes, bronze with more brown is best for green eyes. Brown eyes go great with any bronze.

3. Use a sheer bronze as an over all color for your entire lid extending up to your eyebrow. This is perfect because you wont need a separate brow highlighter. MAC bare study paint pot is great for this.

4. The color used in the crease should not be too shimmery. Use a taupe or brown based bronze for a natural look. Urban decay smog, or MAC bronze is great for this effect. Make sure to blend very well.

5. Using a great bronze liner is a great touch to this, a deep bronze liner should be applied with a heavy had on the upper lash. You can then apply the same liner lightly to the bottom, or the crease shadow to the bottom line. A bronze kohl liner is also great for this.

6. Dark brown mascara is better than black mascara, it brings the look together without being too noticeable.

7. A nice subtle blush with a hint of gold will look good with this look.

8. Keep your lips muted and neutral, to emphasize the eyes. It can be a bit brighter but not too much to add a pop of color. Don't go too bold on both lips and eyes, play up one feature and tone down the other.

These luxe collections are always priced significantly higher than your typical MAC collectio (e.g. $22 for a lipgloss) — I don’t have many details on products or pricing here, but if the theme/preliminary image grabs you, just beware that you’ll need to set aside a lil’ more than usual. Douceur Blush - Yes, you are actually seeing a NARS logo etched onto this soft pink brown blush. That’s a first for NARS.

Daphne Eyeshadow - This is the stunning matte deep-violet we see on Daphne Guiness. I must own this!

Mangrove Eyeshadow - This soft mellow yellow laced with lime is inspired by the tropical Mangrove tree. This shade isn’t something I’m naturally drawn to for fear of looking sallow, but I trust NARS in a way I don’t other brands. I think it could actually be pretty cool.

Coconut Grove Eyeshadow - Described as a dark chocolate-cum-taupe, this shade is named for Miami’s magical neighborhood on Biscayne Bay.

Rouge Basque Lipstick - Drawing inspriration from the inside cover of a book from the famed French countryside, François Nars envisioned the quintessential red from the Basque region. I’m interested to see this in person, it looks like it could be a very flattering, understated red.

Strawberry Fields Lip Gloss – So NARS is trying to make you hungry with this description: Imagine juicy, mouthwatering strawberries, just picked. Then delight in the serious, yet sexy shine of this bright pink confection.

Palladium Soft Touch Shadow Pencil – This was one of my favorite product launcheslast year! I’m glad to see another color released. Palladium is a sparkling turquoisethat rocks with all the vibrancy and sex appeal of its namesake NYC hotspot.

Tzarine Duo Eyeshadow – The duos looks stunning – very neutral, yet jazzed up a bit. Tzarine includes platinum gold infused with silver and is paired with a bold, steel grey.

Rajasthan Duo Eyeshadow - Named after India’s largest state, this duo plays glazed almond against cool charcoal. There’s a definite green tinge going on with the dark side, and I like it!

2005-2006 Mary came out with The Breakthrough this year she came with the beautiful light blonde color and more length to add versatility to her styles. Mary also brought back the high fashion, goddess braid (i love this look). I also loved how the light blonde made her skin glow.

2007-2008 This year Mary topped the chart with her album Growing Pains, selling over 629,000 her first week!! She came with honey blonde color and a little lower in her back. She added a very classy side or middle part, wearing loose waves or very sleek and straight.

2009- Present this is Mary at her best in my opinion. I love the shorter, sexy look!! Wearing a blend of medium and light brown and honey blonde color. Her shorter cuts gives her a sophisticated, classy, young, fresh look. I love how the colors bring out her complexion!! Less is more!!!

2003-2004 This year Mary released "Love & Life" on the cover rocking a pulled back look with loose hairs in the front, very casual. During this time, Mary keep her signature honey blonde tresses and played around with length and layers.

1996 - This is the year Mary wins her first grammy for her collaboration with Method Man "Your All I Need". This song came out in 1995 and I rocked it until about 2000!!!

1997-1998 This year Mary Released "Share My World" still rocking the blonde highlighted tresses mary keeps her hair at shoulder length during this time. This was also when she released her single "Not Gonna Cry" for the "Waiting to Exhale" soundtrack. I know all ladies had this in their car, portable cd player and wherever else they played music. Mary's look in this video(seem below) is so classic. The blonde/med. brown swoop under a wrap with the black sunglasses and the blonde french roll with bangs, and don't forget the black lipstick (I actually wore black lipstick during this time from MAC). Mary also experimented with platinum spirals in her video with Lil Kim "I can love you" How many of you took her picture to your hair stylist.

1999-2000 Mary released her self titled album "Mary". She was still bringing it with the hair styles.

We are gonna take a look at Mary's looks from 1992-1995. This was Mary's introduction as a solo R&B singer on her way to being an R&B Diva!!

1992-1993 From the start of her career Mary has been on top of her hair game. Rocking those light brown spirals, slightly lifted at the top was hott!! If your remember 2 of her hot singles from this album "Real Love" "What's the 411" Mary worked a fly shoulder length Auburn bob and added the accessories of baseball cap and a head scarf to give it an extra street appeal.

1994-1995 Mary releases My Life, here Mary introduces us to her High lift blonde/honey blonde tresses. On the album cover she is rocking large blonde ponytail twist with a great leather biker cap, hot look. I remember her video for "I'm going down" that blonde was striking. As I watched the video mary is wearing a shag, great short cut on the top with the nape of the neck to her shoulders.

This week I decided to highlight on of my favorite R&B singers and hair icons, Mary J. Blige. I think Mary has worn every hair do possible since her introduction to the music world in 1992 with her album What's the 411, actually we got a glimpse of her in 1990 as a background singer for rapper Redd and singing the hook for Father MC "I'll Do 4 U". When Mary came out with her fly, exaggerated urban wear we were all in love and she has since then matured and evolved in front of our eyes. As I have been writing these posts, and listening to her past cds and watching videos I realize how much I love Mary as a R&B singer, and as a person. She has made it comfortable for someone who may have grown up with insecurities to get over them and to and feel comfortable in their own skin!!! Mary has show us that its okay to evolve as women , one women can be urban, chic, classy all in the same person!!!

The designer-turned-perfumer-turned-movie-director can now add "makeup artist" (well, sort of) to his resumé, as his Private Blend Lip Color Collection, a line of 12 lipsticks, debuts at Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue on June 1. Each tube is $45, which isn't cheap by any lipstick standard, but here's why we love them: These little babies are pigment-rich, so a little goes a long way. There's an array of pretty, flattering reds, nudes, and pinks. They're semimatte, but feel creamy going on and don't dry out your mouth, thanks to murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil. And the cases? Oh the cases. They look like tiny, chic, white lacquered boxes with gold trim—they're heavier than your average lipstick, so they feel special and substantial.

Since I am loving all things plum and berry right now as I plan the makeup-trend stories for our fall issues, if I had to choose just one of the TF shades, I'd go for Moroccan Rouge—a deep plum-berry that'll give you the cool stained-lips look from the Proenza Schouler fall fashion show. Hello Ladies,
I have a new product for you!!! I saw that Loreal came out with a new primer. So, I said let me try it and see if it really works, well i used it on Monday in Atlanta which was about 85-90 degrees. Ladies, I only had to powder my makeup once, and my skin is kinda oily!!! Just to compare it to the most popular primer I know, Smash box, I used Smashbox on Tuesday it was good. However the Loreal is very comparable and for a lower rate. Smashbox is $38. So ladies my choice for beautinista on a budget is Loreal, it costs between $10-$13, you can't beat that!!!

Just to give you some background information, primer is put on your entire face prior to foundation or concealer application. After your moisturize, you apply the primer and let it set then go on with your normal foundation application. The primers main function is to allow your makeup to stay on longer, it also aids in preventing your skin from becoming oily or shiny. It also minimizes wrinkles and fine lines. Its essential to have in your makeup kit. !!

My posts this week have been inspired by my fabulous mom, Claudette (pic below). My mom has always been on top of her beauty game.
